Who is Jean Knapp?
Jean Knapp is an independent Primary Mathematics Consultant with over 24 years of experience in the primary classroom. This involved 7 years as a Mathematics Coordinator/Lead Teacher and AST in Greenwich and Hillingdon, Mathematics Consultancy for the last 15 years (starting in Hillingdon LA) delivering hundreds of courses and in-house school development, writing publications for the DfE and BEAM, and delivering conferences all over the UK. Jean also worked as a Primary Mathematics Lecturer at Kingston University for 7 years. She now works, since January 2018, as a part-time Consultant and part-time Maths Specialist/T&L Lead in Year 6 teacher for two Slough schools.
For the last 8 years, Jean has worked with over 100 triads of teachers using the ‘Good to Outstanding’ materials she has developed with clear impact evidence. These materials are currently being developed in the light of research and Curriculum developments.
She is passionate about Mathematics that is both fun and engaging to teach and learn. Her research interests lay in Maths Mastery, Problem Solving in the Real World and the Language of Mathematics. She has a particular interest in strategies for deciphering word problems in the end of key stage tests and is researching aspects of Curriculum design.
Her consultancy work is varied. She offers bespoke school support alongside a variety of other work. These include being a DfE workgroup member for KS2 Maths Tests, an associate provider for More Able Maths Days (Authors Abroad), a lecturer on a schools based PGCE Programme in Battersea, and an Innovation Lead for London Central and West Maths Hubs for Deciphering Word Problems (Strategies).
